PWA Slalom Alacati 2010 is done
Straight after the Canary trip we flew back to Austria through Düsseldorf. We had just 1 and a half day to organise things for a 3 week Turkey-Greece trip, pick up the post, pick up a repaired sail, getting the right gear sorted out. What a stress! Thanks to the help of our friends Jürgen and David we got lifts from →
My 6th Slalomevent at Sotavento
The third PWA Slalom of the 2010 season here at Fuerteventura saw a lot of different conditions while 5 days of competition. From 40 knots down to 15 knots, which are relatively unusual for Sotavento at this period of the time. It´s over for 3 days already. We sailed 10 full rounds. I finished 36th in my 6th Fuerteventura Slalom, where →
Shots from South Korea
Korea was always a lucky place for me. I could finish once 17th and once 19th. But so far I took the wrong trains. But some days are left to go! I got some shots for you from South Korea. Some of them are mine, some are by John Carter. We had one day with racing: I started good in my →
Nice conditions at the 11th Vietnam Funcup
Before we travelled to Asia I was not sure, how it will work out sailing in a competition. The winter in Austria was extremely hard, no chance to enter the water since the 28th of December, when I had my last session on the lake. I did other training at home or at the gym, went skiing... And looks like this →
Racing in Vietnam will be tough this year
The this years Vietnam Funcup, it will be the 11th edition, will be a tough one. I could win the race last year. It was the 10th time, that the event happened. In the upcoming competition, which will take place on the 29th and 30th of January for the very first time a Pro division will be held. The organizer Pascal →
Slalomvictory at the Hallowind 2009 in Jadrija/ Croatia
"It was a long ride in the car of about 650 km through Hungary and Croatia. But it was worth the effort. Crystal water in the Adriatic sea, blue skies and wind from 7 to 30 knots brought a lot of action. The opponents from Croatia, Slovenia and Austria were excellent and it was a tough fight till the last →
Austrian Nationals
Last weekend I was participating for the very first time in the Austrian Slalom Nationals. The competition took place at Lake Neusiedler in Weiden. We had a good fleet of 30 sailors and a lot of rain on Saturday. But on Sunday the sky cleared up, the sun came through and the wind picked up to a max speed of →
Sylt and the PWA tour 2009 are done
Sylt was tough! Wind, waves and massive rainfall. I definitely struggled while racing, but felt much better than in all the years before. But my result did not proof it. The final points I got for the 48th position were another discard. I lost 3 positions in the overall ranking and felt back from 24th to 27th position. But it was →
Racing at Sylt 2009
We had four rounds of sailing yesterday and the conditions were rough. Wind in between 12 and 25 knots. I was on my 8,1 with 122 in Race 1 and switched in Race 2 to 7,0 and iSonic 101. Had some good starts, but could not finish well. Let´s see, if we should get some more races done, but looks →
5th time here at the PWA worldcup Sylt
We drove up through Austria, Czech Republic and Germany to make it to the most Northern island. It´s the fifth time driving up from Austria to Sylt. The weather sitution has not changed from last years to this year. Cloudy, little short rainfalls and onshore wind, which produces some beachbreak and a lot of choppy water further out. But it´s →
Turkey trip is over
It was a great time being in Turkey for about 16 days. This time we were three people on the trip. Kerstin, myself and my Mum. We joined Turkish airlines, which turned out to be great. They charge you 30 € each bag, which is fair deal. This time I brought four bags. The whole Slalom kit, Alacati can →
The Slalom events on the Canaries are over
It was a greta time competing on Gran Canaria and at Fuertevntura in the PWA Slalom events. In both events I started quite bad and could improve a bit while the events. We had 24 eliminations, which got counted and one more, which got started, but not finished. I did not use my smallest sail, the 5,1 in one single →
PWA Slalom Sotavento – day 1
The day started even worse than the first day in Gran Canaria, but had a strong comeback in the third race of the day. Kerstin had shown me some videostuff from the first two races. Afterwards I went up a bit with the boom and felt more comfortable. As well I changed my jibing position a bit, which gave me →
Registration is done
Today the registration was on whil ethe early afternoon. I personally expected to have a bigger fleet here. Just 47 sailors registered for the event. I really thought it will be hard to get into the top 64, because the discipline Slalom will have a boom. Anyway, tomorrow at 10.30 the first heat could be on and I will try to →
40+ knots in Pozo
Day 6 was definitely the windiest day so far. We got gusts with more than 45 knots on the slalom course. I was on my 5,4 and the iSonic 86 with a 32 cm Canfire. The gear worked great and it was an awesome challenge with the nature. In race 13 I fought very hard for the 6th position with Gonzalo. →
Pozo is different
I came here with the hope to go better than in the previous years. But did not really work out so far. In the beginning at the first round I had the chance to advance easily, but crashed a jibe. Then I continued crashing. On day 2 I took too small sailsize and finished very bad. On day 3 →
Second elimination at Costa Brava
The wind was light, but enough for my 8,8 and 122 combi. In my first heat I fought and came in fourth. Made me happy and jumped over the finishing line. Just a little hop, but got me a pic by John Carter, the official PWA photographer. In round 2 the wind picked up and I tried to start closer to →
Costa Brava PWA Slalom
We got wind here on the first 2 days in the this years Slalom competition here at Costa Brava. On day one I was out, but my first heat never got started in the light onshore conditions. Yesterday the wind changed to southwesterly direction and picked up to almost 20 knots. I was on my 8,8 and made some adjustments →
PWA Jinha Beach is over
It was fun and I could finish 19th. Was worth to come here. Here are some impressions of Jinha:
Windy again at Jinha beach
The Code Red 8,1 was the perfect choice for 13 to 20 knots of wind. It works in a geat windrange and gives me the chance to sail fully powered on the iSONIC 122. Now I must focus on the starts to cross the line on time. Yesterday I missed in 4 starts 3 times the starting line by →
First day of racing
The third day brought a lot of wind and we saw great Slalom races here in the narrow bay of Jinha. The hills on the right hand side can accelerate the wind in heavy gusts and sometimes, especially around the starting area, the wind hammers down like the Bora in Croatia. I had a good day and once could finish a →
Rain over Jinha
In the moment big clouds hang over the bay of Jingha. For today it´s over and the opening ceremony will be on soon. Here is a shot from the actual event mag, where I made it inside. Tomorrow the PWA wants to start early around 9.00 a.m. I will sail in heat 3 and hope to make it up. Keep you updated, Chris
The show is over in Austria
It was great to have a Slalom worldcup here at my homespot in Podersdorf. I really enjoyed to sail eliminations on the waters I know for many years. In the end the result was not the most important. I finished in 36th position overall. More important was the positive feeling in speed, acceleration and jibes. In two heats I could →
PWA Slalom in Austria
We had 2 days with great wind already. On the firts day I did good. On the second I was a bit unlucky with my tactics. The good thing is, that it takes place at home and I get a lot of media attention. All the best from windy Podersdorf, Chris
