a true windsurfing story

Life

Island traveller

It´s a special trip on the Canaries this year. We first arrived on Fuerteventura and had a good time for about a week at Sotavento. Afterwards we travelled to Lanzarote reporting from the second PWA Freestyle event. The action was great. Sarah-Quita took another title and Gollito could defeat Kiri in the final. We stayed at the beach front of →

Arrived on the Canaries

It´s so beautiful to sail in crystal waters at Sotavento with nice powerful wind in the sail. I really enjoyed my first session yesterday at the Center 1 of  René Egli. The preparation for the 6 weeks trip, which will include short excursions to Lanzarote and Gran Canaria as well, were tough. I had to organize some technical ugrades, sort out →

Back from Asia

It was a nice time overthere in South Korea. The event was so well organised and the conditions were fine. Now it´s time to focus on training and tuning the gear even better. I already had a worldclass 9,6 day  on the lake in Podersdorf and some training in the gym and on the bike. The 37th position in the →

REFLEX session in Podersdorf

Yesterday we had a nice day here at Lake Neusiedl. Sailing for the first time without booties. I was out on my Reflex 8,6 and iSONIC 131 combo. The wind from south eastern direction made it possible to sail in front of the lighthouse. Kerstin took some cool shots with her 200 -400 mm Nikon lense.

Windy spring 2010

While the last two weeks we saw a lot of great days here at my homespot on Lake Neusiedler. My plan was to catch most of the days and if it will be really light to jump on the XL Formula gear. But it was so much wind, that my most used set got the small iSONIC 86 plus 5,4 →

Back home in Austria

Now I am already back in Europe for 19 days. These last days were busy. Had one super windsurfing session in 8 Beaufort at my homespot, sorted out almost all my gear for the 2010 racing season, had a great skiing session close to my birth place, celebrated my birthday, passed by Munich and so on and so on.. In the →

Active day

Yesterday I had an active day. I went for an intense Slalom session on 6,2 plus 94 in front of the Jibe´s Beach Club. Was surprised, how great the new 94 iSonic worked. The water was super choppy and went Slalom through kiters, windsurfers and swimmers. Around 5.00 p.m. the wind dropped and I practiced on the 12,6 SUP. When →

Freeride session at the Mole West

I was really stocked about the fact, that it got warm and als the ice went away. My homespot works again. I had to look for a place without pack ice at the beach and found one in Neusiedl, directly in front of the first class restaurant Mole West. I decided to test out my new freeride set, the Futura →

Frozen lake

The lake Neusiedler, my homespot, is covered with a thick layer of ice in the moment. We had a terrible week with temperatures in between -5° and -15°. That was too much. The conditions for icesailing, or icesurfing were quite good. Two days ago the weather changed completely and we got warm air from the south, perhaps from the Sahara. →

Living at the sea

At a sea of fog. The fog covers the ground and is heavy hanging over the lake. I wait for lifting of the fog, when the sun comes through and the wind, too. The lake will be ready again, open and uncovered. Then it´s time: I MUST GO IN, THE FOG IS RISING (Emily Dickinson, americ. poet, 1830-1886).

Fuerte Trip

This time we decided to go for a 7 day trip to Fuerteventura. And it was worth so far meeting the whole Starboard/Severne crew at their importers/ dealersmeeting, testing new products and having fun with our friends. The wind was more on the light side while the first days, but picked up quite strong yesterday. I got the chance - thanks →

Turkey trip is over

It was a great time being in Turkey for about 16 days. This time we were three people on the trip. Kerstin, myself and my Mum. We joined Turkish airlines, which turned out to be great. They charge you 30 € each bag, which is fair deal. This time I brought four bags. The whole Slalom kit, Alacati can →

Some pics from the Canary tour

It was great fun here on the Canary Islands. Thanks to all people giving us great support here, like the whole team of the Pro center Rene Egli. Thanks Christin & Jens. One more day is left and then we will leave to Austria. The wind is definitely back at Sotavento again. Chris Incredible strong wind whil ethe Slalom competition with gusts up to →

Strong offshore wind at Sotavento

2 days ago we arrived in Sotavento again after we had a great week on Gran Canaria. I finished in 32nd position at Pozo Izquierdo. The result does not make me happy, but I felt much better than the result looks like. It was the first time I could speed up in the heavy chop. In the PWA Slalom overall →

On the way to Gran Canaria

Yesterday afternoon we had to leave Fuerteventura and to get on the Ferry to Gran Canaria. We had a great time on Fuerteventura with a lot of different action: running, photoshooting, freestylewindsurfing, writing, staying with friends.... Now we are here on the hard core beach of Pozo Izquierdo.Registration is done and will go out for some sailing. The wind is up →

The trades arrived at Sotavento

We arrived and the wind arrived. The June was bad with the wind here on Fuerteventura, but the July seems to be great. Was out on my new 4,2 Gator with the EVO 80 and work on my Freestyle Classix performance. Today the plan is to sail on the Slalom kit. Wind seems to up far above 20 knots and that →

Back on the Canaries

It´s a good feeling to be back on the Canaries after almost a 11 month break. Kerstin and myself had some troubles to get on the plane yesterday afternoon. But finally the very friendly pilot gave the ok and all the Slalom gear and some waveboards plus sails got packed inside the plane. Now we are here at Costa Calma, →

Windy Austria

Since I came back from South Korea, it was on monday, it´s great here at my homespot. Yesterday I was out on iSONIC 101 and Code Red 7,0. Today the wind picked up to 30 knots + in gusts - it was very gusty - and I had fun on the 6,2 and 86. What a nice feeling sailing on →

The show is over in Austria

It was great to have a Slalom worldcup here at my homespot in Podersdorf. I really enjoyed to sail eliminations on the waters I know for many years. In the end the result was not the most important. I finished in 36th position overall. More important was the positive feeling in speed, acceleration and jibes. In two heats I could →

PWA Slalom in Austria

We had 2 days with great wind already. On the firts day I did good. On the second I was a bit unlucky with my tactics. The good thing is, that it takes place at home and I get a lot of media attention. All the best from windy Podersdorf, Chris

Windy weekend

We saw really nice wind for slalom training on big gear at Lake Neusiedler this weekend. On Saturday with 7 to 12 knots and today with 7 - 25 knots. It was definitely gusty, but you could catch a gust and acellerate really nice. On Saturday I tested with Markus Pöltenstein the lightwind trimm, 122 and 8,8. And I got →

Windsurfing news from Lake Neusiedler

We got some wind from southeastern direction this afternoon. I would estimate 5 to 14 knots strong. I went for the first time on the Formula plus my biggest Code Red 8,8, which felt extraordinary new. Would love to go with the 11 m sail, which should arrive soon in Europe. It´s still in a container and hope that the →

The new Code Reds

Here are some pics from the last session at Lake Neusiedler on Saturday, when it was windy for the whole day. The new Code Reds turned out to twist great, accelerate awesome and I like the handling. I was really scared how the new sized 7,0 will work. In the last years Severne had a 6,6 and later with the →

Tested my new Code Reds

It was the first spring day. temperatures up to 15°+. What a change! And the wind kicked in with more than 20 knots and in gusts up to 30 at Lake Neusiedler. I decided to sail in Weiden. This spot works much better with wind from south eastern direction. Today it was super exciting: it was the first time on →
