On the way to Gran Canaria

Yesterday afternoon we had to leave Fuerteventura and to get on the Ferry to Gran Canaria. We had a great time on Fuerteventura with a lot of different action: running, photoshooting, freestylewindsurfing, writing, staying with friends….
Now we are here on the hard core beach of Pozo Izquierdo.Registration is done and will go out for some sailing. The wind is up like always. Above 30 knots. And I brought bigger gear as well, sails up to 8,1 and the 122, you never know! With the 63 rules the PWA can run races in lighter winds as well. But in the moment there is absolutely no use for big gear.

The trades arrived at Sotavento

We arrived and the wind arrived. The June was bad with the wind here on Fuerteventura, but the July seems to be great. Was out on my new 4,2 Gator with the EVO 80 and work on my Freestyle Classix performance. Today the plan is to sail on the Slalom kit.

Wind seems to up far above 20 knots and that will effect enough pressure in the cambered sail.

Back on the Canaries

It´s a good feeling to be back on the Canaries after almost a 11 month break. Kerstin and myself had some troubles to get on the plane yesterday afternoon. But finally the very friendly pilot gave the ok and all the Slalom gear and some waveboards plus sails got packed inside the plane. Now we are here at Costa Calma, where it was kind of calm today, but in the late afternoon the trades picked up a bit and massive clouds got pushed over the sandy slopes behind Sotavento. And while the next days the real conditions will be back. We stay at the house of our friends Christin and Jens. It´s super relaxed here!
Tomorrow it´s time to be back on the water!

Gusts up to 40 knots

In the moment I really live on the right place. Almost windy every day and not too cold. I write about my homespot Lake Neusiedler. Today a massive stormfront kicked in and 30 to 40 knots of wind blew from westerly direction straight onshore at the beachpark of Podersdorf. I went out for a trainingssession with Tom Böhm, who is really motivated for the upcoming PWA Slalom competition in May.
It was not easy to sail with the 5,0 sails. The wind was up and down. 20 knots, 40 knots, 30 knots, 15 knots…..And it was a hard job to make it on the water. The wind tried to blow myself back to the parking area.

SUP session on lake Taco

I had a nice SUP session and great Thai food before leaving to Vietnam this afternoon, where I am going to test Futura boards out of the 2010 range together with Remi Vila.

Vienna – Munich – Bangkok. That was our connection. This time with only two boards and some riggs. That´s easy travelling.

Other guys travel with big luggage as well!!!

Today we sorted out things here at the Starboard headquarter, met many friends. The company grows. Some new buildings are up, with a massive SUP office. Margarete Engström work in there.

After lunch we got the chance to test some SUP boards on lake Taco just in front of the office. And it felt great to play around on the water in warm temperatures.

Kerstin on the SUP almost with the same speed like the guys on the cable.

Looks like I will fly to Vietnam with Remi Vila for some Futura testing on the 29th of January. Really cool!! The windforecast is awesome.

Good to be here in south east Asia.

Back in Austria

It´s a really cold and foggy winter here in the east, in lower Austria. But there is not much time left to think about, if it´s good that the lake is frozen or the temperatutes all day and night long below zero.

I still remember the nice days down there in South Africa, but did a lot of thing s in Austria already. Yesterday I could assist Kerstin at a great shooting inside the palace of Laxenburg.

Wavy slalom at Witsands

Witsands is a really nice spot ,but challenging for slalom. Big sets kicked inside the bay and one of this monster cracked a mast on my 7,7. So I sailed the whole day on the 6,7 and iSonic 101.

3 eliminations got sailed and I made it twice into the final. Once I missed it by one position and the B-final because I broke my rigg.

In the moment I ´m on the 11th position and really hope to continue with some good runs like my first heat of the day. I could finish in second position behind Ross Williams, who leads the event in the moment.
