Winter storm 2017

We got a good forecast for March 4, 2017. A strong south wind should arrive during the day. I made a spot check around 11.30 am. The conditions didn’t look too good. I drove back home, put my 93 liter Kode and the 4Pro 4,5m in the van and decided to drive to a spot on the south eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl. Already during our ride the wind picked up a lot and when we arrived at the spot the water was boiling. White caps every where and nobody on the water. But the sun was out and the temperature climbed up to 18° in the wind shadow.

I quickly rigged my new 4.5m and jumped into my wetsuit, booties and hood. The rest was just fun. Heavy gusts caused big crashes and the wind produced brilliant ramps. Kerstin took brilliant shots I must say.

Despite I was completely maxed out in the heavy gusts I felt comfortable and all the Yoga sessions, the skiing and the training in the gym during the winter months seemed to pay off.

And I really liked the new Challenger 4Pro in 4.5. It matched excellent with the Kode Wave 93. I used for the first time Tectonics Twinser fin in 16,5 cm, really nicely made G-10, what gave the board a lot of grip in turns and a brilliant speed.

All in all it was a fun day. The wind was a bit stronger than forecasted. So, never trust the forecast and always bring small gear with you.
