Sylt World Cup 2014
The time on Sylt is really nice so far. Really warm weather, a nice atmosphere on the beach and a lot of positive vibes. The windsurfing conditions were nice in the beginning. We did one full round of Slalom racing in rough conditions with waves and light wind. Unfortunately I wasn´t windsurfing as good as I expected. I honestly went on too small gear in my first heat. It was a wrong decision to choose the medium board and 7,8m.
In the second round I started well and arrived together with Gunnar Asmussen in 3rd at the first mark, but then jibed too wide at the third mark and lost the safe qualifying position. At the final mark I tried to sneak in just in front of Nico Prien, but completely stopped and somehow was swimming with Gunnar below the mark for a long time. There was not enough wind to water start quick. We had to wait around one minute for the next gust to make it back on our board. Damn!! Missed the good wind by a few seconds. Should race faster next time. Really hope for some more rounds on Saturday. The wind looks much better. I really want to show some better performance on the race course.
In the meanwhile we met a lot of big characters of our sport, did a few great interviews and watched “Children of the wind” on a big cinema screen. A lot of special moments this time!
